As Leslie Knope fatefully said, ““You know my code: hoes before bros. Uteruses before duderuses…Ovaries before brovaries.”
Even though Parks and Rec is no longer around (RIP), her words still hold true. As my social media feeds become inundated with different shades of red and heart-shaped everything, all I gotta say is—where my lurdies at?!
I’ve actually never celebrated Valentine’s Day. Well, the only time I did celebrate it was in college with my then-boyfriend; the day was our anniversary (we had met on V-Day at a RAVE, you know those days…). So that doesn’t count. It’s a made-up holiday. And I hate being forced to do anything just cuz Hallmark says so.
Instead, I’d much rather spend a weekend hanging out with my bestie, Aimee. Aimee and I met when we moved to SF 7 (!) years ago. She has own amazing fashion and lifestyle blog, and she’s one of the few people I can count on to be down for pretty much any adventure. Whether either of us had an SO or not, we’ve always made time for each other.
In our early twenties, our Galentine’s looked like a night out at Elbo Room (also RIP) that ended with getting pupusas and not letting any guy pay for us cuz #wegotthis. Now, we enjoy meandering around the best neighborhood—ours! We can/have spent the entire day doing this, and so for Galentine’s Day, I’m sharing our favorite spots in Lower Haight to spend an easy and fun weekend afternoon:
Reveille Coffee {This place is a relatively new addition to Lower Haight and immediately took off. The pink pops of color brighten up the neighborhood, and it’s right next to the dog park, so you can grab your coffee and go look at the doggos.}
Black Sands {It’s a brewery, but in the morning, it’s a cafe! They’ve got some seriously delicious grain bowls and avo egg toast. Since it’s not crowded in the mornings, we love coming here to get some work done too.}
Groove Merchant Records {This small and mighty shop has tons of records to peruse. I don’t have a record player, but I love checking out the record cover art, something which has gotten lost in the digital age.}
Diane’s Nails {This is our number one fav spot to get our nails done. The ladies are incredibly nice, and it’s honestly a steal for how good a job they do. I also live across the street, and I’ve spent many a Saturday morning rolling out of bed and walking over in my pajamas for a morning pedicure.}
Frozen Kuhsterd {It’s never too cold in SF for ice cream, and FK has some really fun flavors and toppings. I like coming here after getting ramen at Iza. Is that weird?}
