As diverse as the food scene is in San Francisco, Moroccan food is surprisingly scarce. What we do have in that category though, is RIDICULOUSLY good because of Mourad, the subject of today’s restaurant review and photo guide.
Upon walking into Mourad, the first word that comes into mind is woah. The space is massive, with extra high ceilings and tons of natural light. You know that time when you just woke up after having the best night’s sleep and are ravenous and ready to take on the world? That’s what this place feels like—ready to give you the best of everything.
Moroccan food—like the country—is vibrant and whimsical, and the dishes at Mourad reflect that perfectly while providing the signature California flare that’s required of any restaurant using our produce. The menus for both lunch and dinner aren’t too long, so you can easily make your way through everything, and tbh you should because nearly everything is worth it. The highlights for me were:
Breads and Spreads: I could have eaten this for the entire meal and been happy. The housemate bread is so fluffy I thought I was going to die.
Avocado Toast: I almost never order avo toast because I can make it at home, but then this toast came along and put everything I know about this trendy dish to shame.
Salmon: I’m not sure what the glaze on the fish was, but holy shit.
PB&J Sundae: I’d never tried tahini ice cream before and I’m convinced it’s my new favorite flavor! With pomegranate and sesame, it was a wonderful way to end the meal.
And don’t think I forgot about drinks on this menu cuz I DIDN’T. Mourad has a new bar program and it’s one I’d go back to again and again. The cocktails are the most whimsical part of the menu, but don’t be fooled—they pack a punch. My favorite was the Reaping Reward, made with mezcal, grapefruit, and cinnamon.
Come for lunch, dinner, or drinks—Mourad will not disappoint you. The food is incredibly unique and makes for a killer meal and experience.
