Another year, another fog (and music!) filled weekend about to go down at Outside Lands. Unlike the last few years, this year’s music lineup is almost, ALMOST as good as the food lineup, which we all know is the real reason we even go this festival. Word on the street is that there’s even a Grass Lands this year celebrating all things well, you know.
Sandwiches in all their forms rule the menus of OSL vendors this year. It seems like they finally seem to understand our need for running to the next stage while also making sure we’re nourished. As you prepare your beanies and flannels, here’s my annual roundup of the top 10 things (in no order) you need to eat at Outside Lands 2018.
Hand-held Fennel Sausage Calzones from Fiorella
It’s not a sandwich, but it is hand-held, making for easy consumption. The sausage is hearty enough to hold you over, while the fennel is flavor to the max.
Spicy Tamarind & Pork Egg Drop Noodle Soup from Hawker Fare
Few things will warm you up faster than a bowl of soup with meat and spices. And this version is way better than it’s chicken noodle cousin.
Pancetta Breakfast Sandwiches from Precita Park Cafe
What better way to start your day/early afternoon than with a hipster bacon sandwich from one of SF’s most underrated brunch spot? They’ve also got hot and iced coffee.
Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup from Tartine Manufactory
Last sandwich, I promise! It’s just impossible to resist a grilled cheese when it’s made on Tartine bread, the most flavorful bread in the city. And tomato soup? Sold.
Chocolate Chip Cookie from Homestead Cookies
I love these cookies because they’re always sprinkled with a healthy dose of sea salt, making them drool-worthy and not overly sweet so you’ll easily be able to not share any.
Porcini Doughnuts with Raclette Cheese from Rich table
This is on my list every year and I don’t care, it’s so damn good. Warm savory doughnuts dipped in the world’s cheesiest cheese is THE snack to warm you up between sets.
Liquid Chocolate from Guittard Chocolate
Another dessert favorite. It’s small but mighty, and sprinkled with nuts for a nice crunch to offset the silkiness of the chocolate. You’ll want to share this one, it’s intense!
Glazed BBQ Pork Ribs from Cassava
It’s messy, yes, but it’s completely worth it, especially when you have an hour between artists and you realize you haven’t eaten all day. Don’t forget the sweet potato cornbread.
Chicken and Andouille Jambalaya from Alba Ray’s
Few things are more comforting than a good bowl of jambalaya, and Alba Ray’s makes a mean one. Plus, you’ll need the carbs to fuel your dance moves later.
Sausage Deep Dish Pizza Slice from Little Star
Because sometimes, you really just need a big slice of pizza. And Little Star has your back. Deep dish or nothing at all, please.
