The calendar may say fall, but it’s mos def summer in the city. Karl is on vacation and it is time for the baydestrians to play.
The city starts to get turnt up around this time with tons of festivals every weekend. I’m trying to keep up, but I already know that this is a fight I’m not going to win. But hey, always worth a shot, right? With events like Moon Festival, Oktoberfest, and brunch – which is and always be a worthy happening – it’s time to start eating.
Happy fall summer!
Waited in line for 20 minutes to nab a lotus seed paste moon cake from the famous Golden Gate Bakery in Chinatown. Worth it.
Ferry Building farmer’s market – I love peppers, but I hate clowns. Seriously.
Brunch with the ladies at baseball-themed Home Plate restaurant in the Marina. Service is a little slow, but this is some solid food at a very reasonable price. I’d come back for those potato-carrot latkes alone! And did I mention they give you free scones? Oh yea, you’re going here.
FREE. SCONES?! That is, I think, very close to equivalent of the free basket of hush puppies we got at a seafood restaurant in NC (which seemed to be the standard. I should move there!) Also, you have me craving moon cakes and wondering what watermelon wheat beer is. Off to google ‘best moon cakes in Houston’…wish me luck :/
I would die if I had free hush puppies – they’re my absolutely favorite Southern thing to eat! I’m sure you can find moon cakes – let me know!
