Most SF breakfast aficionados are aware of Jane on Fillmore – the Pac Heights locale with gluten-free quinoa toast served on chevron-patterned tables you know you’re going to Instagram.
Jane on Larkin sits in the less ritzy, up-and-coming Tendernob/loin area. It’s an odd spot for a café that’s anything BUT up-and-coming, but in a delicious, addicting way, it works. And when I finally visited a month ago, I’ve since returned four more times, eaten my way through the menu and can’t get enough.
The first thing you notice about Jane on Larkin is the high ceilings, natural light, and a colorful mural that wakes up the space. Whether it’s Sunday afternoon or Wednesday morning, most tables are taken, so it’s best to put someone in your group in charge of ordering and the other in charge of finding a seat. That way, you don’t risk passively aggressively standing next to people to force them to finish their meal.
You can’t go wrong with anything on the two-sided menu. Seriously. From spicy baked eggs to the cheddar egg sandwich to chia seed pudding, everything is delicious without being too heavy. Get the green smoothie for an extra hangover helper.
If you can’t already tell by the photos, my number one item at Jane is the avocado mash. I’ve eaten it at least four times at this point and it’s never a disappointment! Topped with jalapenos and a poached egg, it’s everything I’ve ever wanted.
Jane on Larkin is turning the Tenderloin into a viable breakfast and brunch spot – check it out and see for yourself.
