Being a Bay Area native, Half Moon Bay is more than just a place on the map to me. It was the place where I learned how to swim, where I learned to explore the ocean without being scared, and where I could find comfort food at a hyper-local level. So when I had the opportunity to visit Half Moon Bay Brewing Company to celebrate their 15th anniversary, I piled in the car with some fellow bloggers and set off to revisit the coastal town.
HMB Brewing Company, much like the city itself, is a laid-back brew-pub where locals come and go to enjoy housemade beers and delicious food. When the weather is nice – as it was when we visited – the back patio area is full of people hanging out with live music to match the mood. Even if it got too loud, a walk outside quickly brings you to the beach where you can listen to the waves and revel in the beauty of the West Coast.
The onsite brewery makes some very unique beers, including a saison that is hard to find in most places besides Portland. My favorite was the Kolsch ale that was light with a floral finish, and it was perfect for the 85-degree Saturday.
For a quick and easy day trip and a relaxing afternoon exploring the coast, definitely give HMB Brewing Company a try, and don’t forget to get the crispy seafood sampler when you do!
