SLM Spotlight: Sweetmue Baked Goods

SweetMue

Happy Thursday! As you read this, I’m driving down to Indio for a little teensy festival called Coachella. Music festival eats will be on ze blog next week, so for now, I wanted to shine some light on Sweetmue Baked Goods, a fairly new patisserie that has opened in my favorite district – the Mission.

Originally from the East Bay, Müller, or Mue, spent years working in finance from New York to Texas. She finally decided to leave her job to travel through Europe and attend the International Culinary Center in NYC, eventually making her back to the Bay Area and opening Sweetmue in our very own San Francisco.

Unlike many recent food businesses, Mue (impressively!) financed the entire venture herself, which helped her to be in total control of her company and not lose any stake in it. She does everything from creating the menu – French with Asian flavors – to working the register to choosing the coffee to serve – an amazing blend from Ithaca, NY.

In the style of Asian bakeries, Mue’s desserts have less sugar but bold flavors of green tea, sesame, and more. Her financiers, which she makes using a special method, are absolutely delicious  – I tried one of each flavor and loved all of them. She also makes a fruit tart that comes in a long, bar form for easy one-handed pickup and eating.

If you find yourself in the Mission this weekend – which you always should – definitely check out Sweetmue on 22nd and Guerrero. Follow the patisserie on Facebook to get all the latest menu updates as well!

You would love it – no real vegetarian options though, so you’re gonna have to meat it up!

DEFINITELY visit more often and call me when you do so we can eat! I always need eating buddies in this town. It’s definitely fun to take photos, although I think they’re used to it? Who knows. I feel a little lurky doing it but oh well. I’m also in major desert recovery mode right now!
