Gluten-free is a term that we are all too familiar with in the Bay Area, either through dietary choices, personal afflictions, or package labels (I myself am slightly gluten-intolerant). Even with gluten being at the forefront of food issues today, it is still difficult to find gluten-free goods that actually taste good. That is where Sadie comes in.
Today’s spotlight is on Sadie, who founded Bread SRSLY in 2011 and makes the best gluten-free bread I’ve ever tasted – I’ve definitely eaten half a loaf in one sitting and it was glorious.
Sadie began baking to impress her college crush, making her way to San Francisco for the pursuit. Soon, she discovered that she was gluten-intolerant herself. She began making more and more loaves, and on her day off from working as a barista, she sold them from her apartment. The rest became history.
As for being an entrepreneur, Sadie says it right: “There are a zillion challenges with running a food business. Making the leap from a hobby to a full-time gig is a terrifying experience. Hiring a first employee is even scarier, and turning over control – you get the idea.” She attributes her success to running with her vision; “You learn way quicker by diving in head-first.”
When Sadie isn’t baking up gluten-free deliciousness, she’s dining at Padrecito, Parada 22, and Pika Pika. She’s also having fun cooking with plantains at home and making her own tortillas with sorghum, millet, sweet rice, and masa flours.
In the spirit of good bread, Sadie has been awesome enough to offer SLM readers 10% off ANY Bread SRSLY order via Good Eggs! This will only be valid through 9/30. Just the discount code shikhalamode upon checkout and pick up a bread of the week some Prince Charming loaves – my personal favorite is the Classic Sourdough.

I agree! And good food is good food no matter what!
My FAVORITE gluten-free bread. Funny enough, my husband just looked over my shoulder to tell me he went to college with Sadie! Small world.
