I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been REAL lazy on weeknights lately. My days tend to be packed with breakfast/gym/work, that by the time evening rolls around, I’m ready to c-h-i-l-l. But then the Exploratorium After Dark series came along and reinstated my faith that there are cool things to do on weeknights that still get me home at a decent hour.
The Exploratorium’s new location on Embarcardero makes it a prime spot to hang out after work. On Thursday evenings, it transforms into an interactive night of science, guest speakers, and yes, alcohol. It’s like if college classes were actually cool all the time.
Every week, After Dark has a different theme, and a lot of them are food related—upcoming nights include Cooking Contraptions and Animal Appetites. I got to experience the evening with the founders of Fort Point Beer, who gave a talk about how they brew beer, and the science behind brewing beer, which is way more scientific than I had thought.
There are many other guest speakers as well. On our night, a Stanford professor spoke about the perils and potential of VR, which I’m now convinced is the next frontier of reality.
Science for adults is a thing and worth going to, and the Exploratorium does it well with their After Dark series. Check out their full lineup for fall and head over on a Thursday night.
