There’s a restaurant tucked away in Laurel Heights. It’s right on the corner off of Geary and Masonic, aptly named The Corner Store, and it’s a hidden gem of San Francisco’s restaurant scene.
I first stumbled upon TCS four years ago when I was living in Lower Pac Heights. I read about its homey, elevated comfort food and soon found myself taking friends and out-of-towners alike to Sunday brunch, where the lines were manageable and the food delicious.
Fast forward to now, where the TCS menu has had a facelift and is more of a destination than ever.
The core concept of TCS is still the same—solid food that we all know and love. What’s changed is the execution and the creativity. Buffalo cauliflower is red hot and unique; biscuits are perfectly sized and some of the best I’ve had in the city; and the fancy mac and cheese is just that. On weekdays, there is happy hour, where cocktails are $2 off. TCS also has its own version of Taco Tuesday, featuring a rotating menu of items to choose from.
The lines aren’t long, the food is great—The Corner Store is a quiet but much-needed staple. Go for dinner or my personal favorite, Sunday brunch.
