I’m not a beer person.
That’s probably blasphemous to most people who have a decent social life; beer is one of the most prevalent things one can drink when out and about. I’ve tended to think of beer as a more lackluster beverage and so avoided it, but a day trip to the Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma proved me very wrong.
Situated on an unassuming stretch in Petaluma, the Lagunitas Brewing Company is home to some of the most interesting beers I’ve tasted that come with a rich history behind them. With a rotating selection of beers to choose from, a solid lunch menu, and extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff, it’s an easy way to spend a sunny day with friends, and so that’s exactly what we did. With summer fast approaching us, I highly recommend venturing up north to see for yourself—here are my tips on how to get there and what to do:
Rent a Chariot { I wrote about Chariot in my Tomales Bay post, and I cannot understate how amazing I find them. Meant originally for commuting within San Francisco, Chariot is a great way to shuttle groups around the city as well. Rent one for the day so that the only thing you have to worry about is the road trip playlist. }
Reserve a table { Call the brewery to snag a table, as it fills up on weekends. Bonus points for making your friend group wear matching visors to throw shade at anyone looking your way. }
Order multiple beer samplers { A sampler comes with at least sixteen different types, so order as many as you can drink down and try tons of flavor profiles at once. }
Take a tour { They’re free! They host tours regularly, so ask when the next one is when you arrive and join in. The history of Lagunitas is very interesting—ever wonder why they have a beer called Lagunitas Sucks? Well, you’ll soon find out. }
Eat { The Lagunitas wings, veggie burger, and pulled pork sandwich are easy favorites. }
