Prix fixe dinners are trending in San Francisco, and a worthy addition to the scene is the underrated menu at Hearth.
Coffeehouse by day (with an insane breakfast croissant), Hearth transforms into a simple and elegant cafe at night. Strings of lights adorn the walls while candles set the mood at each of the tables. Instead of coffee, there is wine; instead of croissants, there is a three-course menu under $30.
Chef Giulia helms the menu. She comes from Italy, and her cuisine reflects it well, showcasing traditional Southern Italian dishes with California produce. Her menus change each week; when I came, I got to try an octopus salad with orange and fennel, pasta with ricotta and clams, and a pound cake with sweet ricotta and berries. Everything was light and fresh, and when paired with a glass of wine (or tw0), it made for a lovely weekday dinner date night.
I’m excited to see what the future menus hold and how Hearth continues to evolve its space. In San Francisco, prix fixe dinners are here to stay, and Hearth comes across as a local’s spot that is up-to-date on the city’s trends. It’s refreshing to experience dinners like these that don’t break the bank and are right in the neighborhood.
