Nestled on the cusp of the Financial District and Downtown, E & O Asian Kitchen is a restaurant that showcases the dynamic nuances of Asian cuisine with an upscale flair and sensibility. It is helmed by Chef Sharon Nahm, who has been cooking here for six years and knows her cuisine in and out.
I had the opportunity to dine here with a friend recently and explored the menu thoroughly. We began our meal with some killer cocktails, like the Jack Sparrow – which, if you know anything about me, was the obvious choice to get. Rum, vermouth, grenadine, and bitters make for a sweet and refreshing start to the meal.
To eat properly here, I recommend ordering a couple of things from each section of the menu so you have a sense for all the different types of Asian cooking featured. The coconut curry ceviche is a must-have, served in an actual coconut with taro chips in an impressive presentation and taste to match. The butternut squash dumplings usher in fall well, with a Thai red curry sauce that has just the right amount of kick.
E & O has a variety of options that suit nearly any dietary need, which makes it a great place to bring just about anyone. For my pescatarian preferences, I ate the wood roasted black cod with water spinach, which was perfectly cooked. In true Asian fashion, noodles are a must, and the drunken noodles do not disappoint.
Desserts are just the right size and are not too sweet, making it easy to eat two – which I obviously did. Since traditional Asian cuisine tends to not be heavy on the sweet side, the menu consists of French and Italian style pastries with Asian flavors, like the mango panna cotta or spicy ginger cookies.
I’m stoked to have disovered E & O Asian Kitchen because there is truly something for everyone. It does a great job of covering all the bases of Asian cuisine in a comforting and classy manner and definitely worth a visit.
