Eating in Austin: Part 3

2013-11-02 18.36.37

As low-key and young that Austin is, it still has its higher end nooks, even if they’re disguised by the flat houses of Rainey Street or hidden away behind downtown. And even if they are billed as higher-end, they still emit a (mostly) unstuffy vibe where diners can walk in and eat in shorts and an American flag sweatshirt…oh wait, that was just me.

Gnome

Gnomesayin?

Now, I’m all about my hole-in-the-walls, but it’s fun to eat a little fancy now and then, nahmsayin? As it were, a pastry chef I used to work for spins some seriously amazing desserts in Austin now, and of course I had to see her in action. The food at her restaurant is other-worldly, and the drinks are a must-have. I’ll leave y’all with some photos of our dinner that left me too full to do anything afterwards but sleeeeeep.

While I love traveling and visiting old and new friends in new places, there’s really nothing as fresh as the bay. But Austin, you aight.

Keeping it weird.

Rocky Road sundae – look at that torched marshmallow!

Words cannot describe this espresso souffle. They cannot.

Detoxing the next day at JuiceLand. This bench reminds me so much of Berkeley.

Erika, I’m so sad I couldn’t see you. It was insane how much food I ate! I’m on a detox, aka a detox that lasted one day because then I’m eating again.

I have a friend who lives in Austin. Now I’ll have to go visit him just to get a taste of these restaurants!
